A Black Lives Matter activist and teacher has come out criticizing the sum and universal truth “2+2=4” calling the expression “Western Imperialist/Colonization” and our thinking of it as “the only way of knowing.”
In the past, there have been multiple accusations calling math “racist,” but these condemnations have been on academic performance by group rather than the subject itself. Calls to “decolonize” science, history, and philosophy have echoed through the hallways of major higher learning institutions as social justice warriors fight for equality.
The Twitter account making the claim is who, in her bio, describes herself as:
“she/her, teacher, scholar, social justice change agent, Chicagoan, PhD student, architecture enthusiast, wannabe math person, BLM always…”
The controversial tweet in question reads: “Nope the idea of 2 + 2 equaling 4 is cultural and because of western imperialism/colonization, we think of it as the only way of knowing.”
The teacher has since locked her Twitter account following the backlash from the tweet.
PJ Media located the PhD student in a Rutgers University directory where her specialization is Mathematics Education.
Last year, National File reported on a bizarre curriculum update from Washington State’s Superintendent’s website containing the so-called the “K-12 Math Ethnic Studies Framework.”
National File reported:
The first theme- “Origins, Identity, and Agency” – promises to interrogate the following:
Origins, Identity and Agency, as defined by ethnic studies, is the ways [sic] in which we view ourselves as mathematicians and members of broader mathematical communities. Mathematical theory and application is rooted in the ancient histories of people and empires of color. All human endeavors include mathematical thinking; from humanities to the arts to the sciences.
Education has drawn increasingly negative coverage in recent years over there inseparable marriage to hard-left ideologies that alienate large portions of the general public.
