A fighter competing as a “female” who earlier failed a gender test beat up a woman in a Paris Olympics-Approved boxing match in France earlier this week.
The International Olympic Committee, or IOC, decided to allow Algeria’s Imane Khelif to participate in the women’s welterweight category at the Olympic Games.
Khelif hit her first-round opponent Angela Carini of Italy so hard the Italian woman withdrew just 46 seconds into the bout.
The IOC has defended its decision to allow Khelif to compete in Paris.
Khelif had previously been disqualified from world championships after the boxer failed to meet “gender eligibility requirements,”
The IOC has drawn criticism from prominent international figures, including Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“This is unjust,” the Italian Angela Carini cried after taking a crushing blow, falling to her knees, and slamming her headgear to the canvas.
Khelif, who is alleged to have been born as a biological female, boxed the Tokyo Games in 2021.
But the International Boxing Association (IBA) barred the controversial boxer from last year’s world championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria to compete as a woman.
Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting was also barred from the competition.
The IOC cleared both competitors to compete in Paris, leading to the international incident and debate around the idea of men beating women.
Lin, Taiwan’s 2022 female featherweight world champion, bested Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova last week.
The Olympics-approved man-on-girl violence drove a spate of high profile commentators to take to X (formerly Twitter) to offer their hot takes.
A young female boxer has just had everything she’s worked and trained for snatched away because you allowed a male to get in the ring with her. You’re a disgrace, your ‘safeguarding’ is a joke and #Paris24 will be forever tarnished by the brutal injustice done to Carini. https://t.co/JMKzVljpyr

This is Angela Carini, a female Italian boxer in tears, after saying “I’ve never been hit so hard in my life,” by her male opponent in the Olympics today.
This is what Democrats, who claim to protect women, support.
It’s disgusting, unfair, and dangerous. pic.twitter.com/aPE8Cm0Abd
