New York City Mayor Eric Adams is pushing Vice President Kamala Harris to be or at least appear tough-on-crime for this presidential election.
In an interview with Semafor, Adams said, “The Democratic Party has a tendency to run away from public safety, but it is a very attractive criterion and is a very attractive part of your resume.”
According to the outlet, Harris “built her career in California as a ‘smart on crime’ prosecutor,” taking stances to the right of typical Democrats regarding criminal justice.
Harris, of course, downplayed much of her role in law enforcement during the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots, which killed at least 25 people and tallied $2 billion in nationwide damages. Semafor said she “took positions intended to win her friends” by aligning with the so-called “defund the police” movement.

According to Newsmax, Harris encouraged much of the protesting during the riots.
They’re not going to stop before Election Day in November and they’re not going to stop after Election Day. And that should be — everyone should take note of that on both levels, that this isn’t — they’re not going to let up and they should not.
Adams, a retired transit police officer of 22 years, told Semafor, “She ran away. I don’t think she should have moved away from it. I think that now, you see, she’s leaning into it.”
Harris was also a part of law enforcement as district attorney of Alameda County in California and San Francisco before becoming the state’s attorney general and then senator.
The vice president has leaned into her law enforcement background when grilling former President Donald Trump.
I took on perpetrators of all kinds – predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump’s type.
Still, much of Harris’s efforts have been on railing against banks for foreclosures from over a decade ago. She has yet to discuss any substantial plan with law enforcement. Although, in July, she jilted her BLM friends, touting her tough-on-crime prosection.
Harris has promoted herself in ads as pro-law, harking on President Joe Biden’s bipartisan Senate border deal, which would have actually increased illegal immigration across the southern border.

Given Adam’s political struggles, with an approval rating of 28% and the Manhattan Institute’s polling showing a mere 16% of voters in the city would vote to re-elect, Harris may be better off not taking his advice.
