Patrick McHenry will need Democrat support to become Speaker after 5 House Republicans announced that they would not support the resolution to empower Patrick McHenry with Speakership powers. Congress must pass a new Continuing Resolution by November 17th to avoid a government shutdown. Many D.C. insiders believe that McHenry will give Congressional Democrats all they want in upcoming budget negotiations.
GOP Reps: Troy Nehls, Kevin Hern, Bob Good, MTG, Scott Perry and Jim Banks have publicly come out in opposition to Patrick McHenery’s Speakership. This list of opposition is expected to grow.

If every House GOP member besides those 6 voted yes on McHenry, McHenry would be 2 votes shy of the required 217 votes needed to become Speaker. This means McHenry is going to have to rely on House Democrat support to win the Speakership.
Many D.C. insiders believe there is a high chance McHenry will grant Congressional Dems their wishes in the upcoming CR fight. This means there is a high chance House Dems will help Mchenry become Speaker.
