45th President Trump says that he’s willing to serve as Speaker of the House following Kevin McCarthy’s removal by way of the Motion to Vacate, according to a report citing “sources close to the former President.”
Following Kevin McCarthy’s removal as Speaker of the House through a Matt Gaetz-sponsored Motion to Vacate, momentum is growing both in and out of Congress to elect 45th President Trump to head up the national legislature.
Constitutionally, the Speaker of the House is not required to be a member of Congress and Trump received support from legislators and GOP voters alike when he was nominated as speaker during January’s leadership election.
According to the news publication Leading Report, “Donald Trump is willing to serve as House Speaker, according to sources close to the former President.”
Several members of Congress have already indicated that they are willing to support Trump for speaker, and Texas Rep. Troy Nehls, who voted against the Motion to Vacate, vowed to nominate Trump as speaker after Kevin McCarthy announced that he wouldn’t be seeking re-election.
“Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker,” Nehls wrote in a Tuesday evening post to X, hours after McCarthy was removed from the speaker’s chair.
“I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House.”
The Trump nomination though will have to wait, as Congress has been sent home for a week by temporary speaker Patrick McHenry (R-NC) who was hand-chosen by Kevin McCarthy to fill the vacant speaker until a new speaker is elected, under a perversion of speakership succession laws.
As mentioned, President Trump was nominated for Speaker of the House in January by members of Congress opposed to Kevin McCarthy’s coronation.
At the time, National File’s reporting became international news when this outlet published the “Speaker Trump” memo, a Freedom Caucus document laying out plans to elect Trump as Speaker of the House.
It would appear, that those plans are still in effect.
The speakership battle is still developing. Stay with National File for updates as they become available.
