Polling numbers promoted by FiveThirtyEight show Trump leading two separate major polls over Joe Biden in a general election matchup, even defeating Biden by eight points in a poll ending on May 1. DeSantis lost to Biden in hypothetical general election matchups in both of those polling contests.

Nevertheless, certain members of the political class continue to agitate for Ron DeSantis, even as his numbers in big national polls have dropped considerably since the introduction of the “DeSimp” political machine on social media. With the election in full swing, and Robert F. Kennedy Junior picking up numbers on the Democrat primary side against Joe Biden, it’s clear that President Donald Trump is gaining momentum.
