The Texas Republican House Speaker and prominent Republican strategist Karl Rove have backstabbed Republicans by working with state Democrats to advance the pro-choice agenda.
After Texas’ trigger law, which effectively banned abortion, went into effect following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, Democrats have frantically attempted to pass pro-choice initiatives.
Karl Rove, a Bush-era Republican, succumbed to the pressure over this past weekend, calling Texas’ staunch pro-life legislation “too extreme.” Rove refuses to hold a hard-line stance against abortion and believes the state should be okay with abortion in cases of rape and incest.
Rove believes a solid pro-life, conservative stance against abortion is going to “create a real problem for Republicans in the Legislature next year when they have to deal with it.
Texas House speaker Dade Phelan has also begun backtracking away from support of pro-life measures. Phelan told Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith he intends to work with Democrats to lead the House to revisit the state’s law that criminalizes abortion.
Phelan has been pushed to believe the liberal media’s narrative that the state’s abortion ban “complicated medical care for ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages.”
Phelan and Rove have been slammed by true Texas Conservatives for their collaboration with state Democrats.
“Currently, we have some of the strongest pro life laws in the nation, and we should be really proud of it. But our Republican Speaker of the Texas House…has come out and said, You know what, there are some children who can’t be killed, that we think should be able to get killed,” Macias said on The Luke Macias Show while speaking with fellow Texas activist Michael Quinn Sullivan.
“I continue to hear from grassroots folks upset about the comments @DadePhelan made last weekend. This is not the direction we want the Texas House to go,” Conservative activist Cary Cheshire posted on Twitter.
“Pro-abortion Republicans have no place in Texas,” former State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Don Huffines commented.
